Lisfinny Castle, probably built around 1460 by the Earl of Desmond on a hillside above the River Bride, became a ruin by 1641 after passing through the hands of Sir Walter Raleigh and the Earl of Cork. In 1888, lessee Douglas Pyne barricaded himself inside with provisions to resist arrest during the Land War, forcing police to camp around it until he escaped into a foggy morning. The ruined tower still stands beside a later Georgian house on a private farm near Tallowbridge, keeping its history of rebellion and retreat.
