Enclosure in Taylorstown,carrowmore WestEnclosure · 150 yd

Explorer Tom This enclosure in Taylorstown is pretending it’s not a royal residence, but I bet a fake king visited and left no evidence behind. It’s the kind of place where you can invent a whole lineage if nobody’s watching closely enough. Go with someone who loves old stuff and watch them melt.

LisduffFairy fort / earthen ringfort · 284 yd

Explorer Tom Lisduff is a fairy fort that looks like it just woke up from a nap, still rubbing the dirt out of its eyes. If it went to a chippy, it would order double chips with extra vinegar for good measure. Bring a pen pal, they'll be jealous.

European Beech1.3 mi

Explorer Tom European Beech in County Galway thinks its favourite song is 'I Will Survive' because it has outlasted every fashion trend since the Victorian era. It’s basically a woodland celebrity who refuses to bow out, so you’d best go before the tourists find out and start charging admission.

Cartron HouseHouse · 1.3 mi

Explorer Tom Cartron House in Clonmacnowen By has a front that looks exactly like its side, which is weirdly efficient but also a bit lazy. It was probably the site of a dance where someone spilled wine on the render. Have a wander and look twice.

Saint Augustine's Catholic ChurchChurch/chapel · 1.4 mi

Explorer Tom Saint Augustine's Catholic Church in Crossconnell More is all about that Gothic drama, with windows showing the Nativity like it’s a soap opera. The name probably means 'The Guy Who Forgets His Keys,' but I’m only half-joking about that one. Its stained glass is sharp enough to cut through your excuses, so keep your eyes peeled for the art!

European Yew1.5 mi

Explorer Tom European Yew in County Galway is currently in the middle of a fierce dispute with a fairy over parking rights near its roots. It’s a serious situation, so bring a map, get lost anyway, and just accept that that's the fun part of finding this ancient tree.

The bloody HollowHeritage attraction · 2.6 mi

Explorer Tom The bloody Hollow in County Galway got its name from a priest who lost a bet about how many crows he could scare off with one shout. He screamed so loud he broke his voice and maybe a few bones, or so the legend goes. Get there early and have it all to yourself before the ghosts get their coffee.

Battle of AughrimMajor battlefield · 2.9 mi

Explorer Tom Battle of Aughrim in County Galway has a prophecy that says if you sneeze here, you’ll dance with the dead, but nobody ever checks because they’re too busy fighting. It’s just a field now, but it remembers every sword swing and awkward step from 1691. Sit on a wall nearby and pretend you’re in a very dusty painting.

Battle of Aughrim Interpretative CentreMuseum · 3.5 mi

Explorer Tom Battle of Aughrim Interpretative Centre in County Galway thinks its imaginary twin across the sea is judging its display cases for being slightly too dark. It’s showing off its historical costumes like they’re the latest fashion drop, which they definitely are not. Linger a bit; it’s not going anywhere and neither should you.

Killure Castle (in ruins)Castle, tower house · 7.2 mi

Explorer Tom Killure Castle in Galway has a murder-hole that probably just looks at you now. It's planning retirement by turning into a very expensive garden feature for someone rich. Hum something sad nearby, it adds atmosphere.

Kilconnell AbbeyVisitor attraction · 7.3 mi

Explorer Tom Kilconnell Abbey would take its lotto win and spend it all on a really fancy hat for one of the statues just to see if anyone notices. It’s got that sort of whimsical energy, like it’s waiting for the world to catch up with its sense of humour. Mind the nettles, they're the real guards here.

Pallas CastleCastle · 10 mi

Explorer Tom Pallas Castle in County Galway thinks the little dirt path leading to it is a royal shortcut that saves hours, when it really just takes you around a bend in the same field. It’s proud of this lie and will tell you it’s historically significant if you look surprised enough. Best seen with a hangover and a sausage roll.
