Learys Fort

Situated on a short NW-SE spur that is towards the top of an E-facing slope with the stream of the wooded NW-SE Milltown Glen c. 110m to the NE. It is described as ‘Leary’s Fort’ in gothic lettering on the OS 6-inch maps. This is a subcircular grass-covered area (dims 33.5m NE-SW; 28m NW-SE) defined by an earthen bank (Wth of base 4.9-6.2m; int. H 0.2-0.3m; ext. H 1.3m at NNE to 2.3m at SSW) and hedge. There is no visible fosse and the entrance ramp (Wth of base 1.4m) is at SSE. It has become overgrown since 1968 (Digitalmap).
