Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Kilmainhamwood — Report the wrong picture

Kilmainhamwood in County Meath holds a circular earthen ringfort with a widened eastern entrance and outer ditch, dating to periods when such forts anchored local life. Grass and scrub still cover the bank, yet the shape remains clear enough to walk around and imagine the people who entered, worked, and left it behind.

Located towards the bottom of a NE-facing slope. This is a circular grass and rush-covered area with some scrub (diam. 46m N-S; 43m E-W) that slopes down slightly to the S (H 1m). It is defined by an overgrown earthen bank (Wth of base 5.2-6.2m; int. H 0.8-1m; ext. H 2.4-3.1m) and an outer fosse (Wth of top 5-8m; Wth of base 2-2.3m; ext. D 0.3m at S to 1.3m at N), which has an outer bank (Wth of base 3.8m; ext. H 0.9m) NW-ENE. The fosse may have been re-cut S-WSW. The widened entrance (Wth of base 4m) and causeway (Wth of top 3.4m; H 0.4-0.8m) are at ESE.
