Lakeview House

Detached three-bay two-storey Georgian house, built c.1810, having slightly lower two-bay return to rear, giving T-plan. Late twentieth-century one-bay extension to south-west. Hipped slate roof with lead flashings, cast-iron rainwater goods and two rendered centrally placed chimneystacks. Rendered walls and plinth, with parallel render quoins. Square-headed window openings with moulded render surrounds and replacement timber casement windows. Somewhat low round-headed limestone block-and-start surround with keystone and six-panel replacement timber door with fanlight. Iron railings to east and north enclosing gardens and overlooking farmland with outbuildings to west.

Lakeview House is a Georgian farmhouse of symmetrical design and classical proportions. The building has associations with the Carr Family who were involved in linen weaving and Thomas Joseph Carr became Bishop of Galway in 1883 and in 1887 he became Bishop of Melbourne, Australia. Mature woodland overlooking farmland and a windmill, enhances the setting of this house.
