Knockmoyle Fort is a circular enclosure about thirty-eight metres wide on a Clare hillock, offering unbroken views across a gently undulating landscape. Its earthen bank is now so levelled and faint that it appears only intermittently, yet the open plateau still suggests a place chosen for watchfulness, meeting or local pride. People may have stood there in rain or sunlight, marking territory, sharing news or simply enjoying the rare clarity of the horizon.

In improved pasture on the plateau of a hillock with excellent views in all directions across a lower, gently undulating landscape. According to Westropp (1908-09, 385) this monument had a ‘low earthen ring…[with]…no fosse’. Depicted as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 38m) and named 'Knockmoyle Fort' on the OS historic mapping. Very faint traces of a levelled bank (Wth c. 8-10m; H 0.1m) are evident intermittently SW-N-SE. The interior slopes down gently to S whereby it is just off the crown of the plateau.
