What is recorded here
Detached three-bay single-storey with dormer attic farmhouse, built c.1780, having two-storey elevation to rear (east). Currently unoccupied. Pitched slate roofs to house and dormer windows, having dressed rubble stone eaves, rendered rubble stone chimneystack and cast-iron rainwater goods throughout. White-washed rubble stone walls having rendered gable to side (south) elevation. Slate-hanging to side elevations of dormer windows. Square-headed window openings with stone sills throughout, having timber lintels to ground floor of front elevation and ground floor of rear elevation. Two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows throughout. Square-headed door openings to front and rear elevations, having replacement battened timber doors. Rendered rubble stone boundary wall to west with capped square-profile piers flanking limestone steps leading down to front door. Associated farmyard to west across road. Two-storey outbuilding to east side of yard, recently modified and extended. Rubble stone outbuilding to south side of yard. Gateway to south-west of farmhouse, having double-leaf wrought-iron gates on square-profile rubble stone and recent concrete gate piers.
Located on the roadside, this vernacular farmhouse is a prominent and picturesque landmark. The retention of numerous historic features, including substantial chimneystacks, white-washed rubble stone walls, sash windows and stone sills, add significantly to the building's traditional character. The associated farmyard is curious, as it exhibits a formality which is at odds with the vernacular nature of the house.
