Kiln

Discovered as a result of a pre-development excavation on Bridge Street (Excavation Licence No. 97E0362). Only a small portion of the kiln survived intact as later activity had cut through a substantial part of it. Evidence was produced for a firing chamber or oven and two opposing flues. 386 pottery sherds together with kiln waste and fired clay were recovered. On the basis of the fabric and decoration of the pottery sherds, a date between 1250AD and 1350AD has been suggested for the use of the kiln.
