Kiln

Kiln, corn-drying

What is recorded here

Two cereal-drying kilns are within the annexe attached to the S of Site 1 that was excavated (17E0080) by Deirdre Murphy (excavations.ie 2018:805) and a third is cut into its defining ditch at S. This kiln (dims 9.56m E-W; 3.54m N-S; D 0.4m) was cut into the enclosure ditch, which demonstrates that the enclosure did not have an inner bank. This kiln also had the firing chamber at the E end and had four fills with charcoal and burnt clay. (Murphy 2019, 18, 31) See the attached plan of the enclosure from Murphy (2019, Fig. 7) Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 3 November 2021
