Kilmurry House

Detached L-plan three-bay single-storey gate lodge, built c. 1830, with gable-fronted end-bay to south. Now in disuse. Pitched slate roof with timber bargeboards, rendered chimneystacks and render copings. Roughcast rendered walls. Square-headed window openings with render label-mouldings having ornate label stops. Gates comprise square-profile rendered piers with gabled caps and ornate double-leaf cast-iron spear-headed vehicular and pedestrian gates and roughcast rendered boundary plinth walls with similar ornate cast-iron railings.

This gate lodge once served the demesne of Kilmurry House. The label-mouldings are devices borrowed from medieval architecture. The popularity of this style of Gothic Revival revival architecture lasted into the later years of the nineteenth century. The site retains its cast-iron gates and railings which, together with the gate lodge form a striking roadside feature.
