What is recorded here

Situated on a W-facing slope of rising ground overlooking a river to the W in a mountainous region. Marked as Kilmacloonagh [Kilnacloonagh] on the 1st ed. OS 6-inch map where a roughly oval shaped enclosure is faintly depicted. Present remains consist of a low triangular-shaped platform (H 0.5m; dims. 7m N-S;18m E-W) defined in places by an earth and stone bank (Stout 1984, 104). Possibly a penal church site with possible enclosing burial ground (TN029-014002-). Alternatively this earthwork may be the remains of the unlocated castle (TN029-090001-) of Killawardy mentioned in the 1654-56 Civil Survey (Simington 1931, 4).
