Killeen Burial Ground (Disused)

Burial ground

What is recorded here

Killeen is a disused burial ground in County Cork, Ireland, marked by an irregular raised area 15 metres north-south and 19 metres east-west. Its boundary emerges through overgrowth to the north and field fences to the south and west, while a man-made underground passage cuts through the interior. No burials are visible, leaving the true purpose of the passage and the lives it served hidden beneath the grass.
In circular enclosure (CO119-097---). Irregular raised area (15m N-S; 19m E-W; H 1m) defined by overgrowth N->S and field fences S->W. No burials noted. Man-made underground passage (CO119-036002-) in interior. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
