What is recorded here

Kileencoolcoulaghta Burial Gd is a rectangular burial ground in County Cork, Ireland. It lies in pasture on a southwest-facing slope, measuring fourteen metres long and eight point one metres wide. Overgrowth and scattered grave markers still define its edges. The dead may have chosen this warm slope because it faced the setting sun, while the living forgot the names and let grass reclaim the shape.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
