Kalladodgara Fort (Site of)

Fairy fort / ringfort

What is recorded here

No amount of digging will recover what never existed. Kalladodgara Fort is a phantom born from a surveying error, perhaps a misplaced dot or a scribe's fleeting fantasy. The land holds no ring, no ditch, no human shadow at all.
Marked on the 1841 ed OS 6-inch map as a circular 'fort' (max. diam. c. 20m) clipped by a field wall at NE. No visible surface remains. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Laois' (Dublin Stationery Office, 1995) compiled by P. David Sweetman, Olive Alcock and Bernie Moran. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 17 December 2007

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
