Johns Castle stands in ruins at Rineroe, County Clare, a broken stone shadow rather than a proud tower. It is an unclassified castle, denied the dignity of a clear identity even in death. The ambiguity is fitting; some places refuse to be known, keeping their secrets safe inside the gap between forgetting and history.

Johns Castle (in Ruins), Rineroe is a 16th-century tower house associated with the MacNamara clan of Clare. It is remembered as an example of Gaelic Irish defensive architecture in a region with significant medieval and early modern history.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
