The John O'Grady Monument in Limerick honours a weight thrower with a weight resting on four limestone balls. After a lifetime of throwing the thing, he gets a monument saying, ‘Leave that down now, John. We’ve had it arranged.’

Freestanding limestone and steel monument, erected c. 1940. It takes the form of a weight resting on four limestone balls, on a limestone plinth base with canted podium and commemorative panelling to sides of plinth base. It is dedicated to John O'Grady (1892-1934), a weight thrower.

A symbolically conceived monument while at the same time evoking a Neo-classical character, located at a the sharp angle of the junction of two roads forming a pike.
