This commemorative plaque records: James Macpherson the Highland Freebooter (b.c. 1675) was the last person hanged at Banff prior to the abolition of heritable jurisdiction, 16th November 1700. Recorded plaque organisation: Banffshire Maritime & Heritage Association, Clan Macpherson Association.
James Macpherson, known as the Highland Freebooter, was a notorious outlaw active in the late 17th century; he is remembered for being the last person hanged at Banff under heritable jurisdiction before its abolition.
