What is recorded here
Carrowbrowne Castle and its companion house stood near Ceathrú An Bhrúnaigh in County Galway, leaving behind an inscribed stone bearing 1674. That number may mark the year the house was completed, freezing a moment of hammering, hauling and proud ownership inside cold rock. The castle has vanished, but the stone still sits embedded in a wall, refusing to let forgetting finish its work.
Built into a wall in the vicinity of the site of Carrowbrowne Castle (GA082-018001-) and an associated house (GA082-018002-). An inscribed stone bearing the date 1674 may be the datestone of the house.
