What is recorded here

According to Power (1940, 104) inscribed stone once stood in a fence on road side in this townland. Inscription (not given) was read by Canon Smiddy c. 1860 and stone was subsequently removed and buried nearby. Exact location not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). Likely dating to the early Christian period, the inscribed stone may have had a commemorative or territorial function. Its removal and burial suggest local awareness of its historical or symbolic significance.
