Inishmore

Inishmore is a small islet in Lough Arrow, County Sligo, where a ruined rectangular stone chamber sits beside a probable graveyard. The 1914 Ordnance Survey called it a monastery, yet no monastic foundation appears in the authoritative 1970 survey, and the building itself lacks clearly churchlike features. That gap between map and stone gives the islet its strangeness: a place named for monks may have been only a chamber, a shrine, a boundary marker or a burial house. The lake can keep that answer hidden while still inviting people to stand inside the ruin and wonder what it was for.
