What is recorded here

Inis Meáin, also called Inishmeane, is the Donegal island off the Gweedore coast, not the larger Inis Meáin in Galway's Aran Islands. Ireland's official placenames record places it in County Donegal and gives the island's mapped centre beside this entry. The record keeps name forms from the Civil Survey in 1654 and later maritime and county maps. It also marks this island as part of the Gaeltacht and notes that a post office existed here at some time. The record does not give a current boat service or public landing arrangement.
