Indicated

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated is a vanished fairy fort in County Cork, drawn as a thirty-metre circle on an 1842 map but absent from the pasture now. The survey line captured a shape that human eyes no longer see, suggesting the land keeps more than stone or soil. People may have walked past a living boundary, reading the grass for a door that appears only when wanted.
Shown on 1842 OS 6-inch map as circular area enclosed by broken line (diam. c. 30m). In level pasture. No visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
