What is recorded here
Indicated (1846) is a fairy fort buried beneath the garden of a modern bungalow on the western slopes of Farraniaragh mountain. Only a short arc of earth and gravel remains, barely taller than a child's knee, while the rest has been levelled into ordinary ground. The house sits directly upon the forgotten circle, forcing its occupants to share the land with whatever presence the old name suggests.
This site is depicted as a small circular field on the first edition of the OS map. Its poorly preserved remains are located on the W slopes of Farraniaragh mountain, in the grounds of a modern bungalow, and consist of a short arc of an earth and gravel bank 1.2m in external height and 1.6m wide. The remainder of the site appears to have been levelled and is densely overgrown.
The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 761. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
