What is recorded here
Marked as a rectangular wood on the 1839 and 1940 eds of the OS 6-inch map and situated on an E-facing slope off the E tip of a W-E spur of Slievebaun Hill. This is a square area with rounded corners or a subcircular area (dims. 52m NW-SE; 52m NE-SW) within a coniferous forest defined by an earthen bank (Wth 2-3m; H 0.4m) with an external fosse (Wth 2m; D below exterior 0.4m). There is no visible entrance, but two low banks (Wth 2.5m; H 0.2m) run through the interior parallel with the NW and SE sides and 8m distant from them. Rath (WX005-030----) is c. 200m to the W, and this site has been classified as a moated site (Barry 1977, 224, WX 87).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
