National Monument No. 10044. Kilcolman/Cill na gColmán: An Early Christian church site KE042-141001- lying on the S slopes of an E-W spur of Lateevemore, overlooking Ventry Harbour. (9) The 3 springs that issue from the ground about 80m S of the enclosure are probably the holy well (KE042-141010-) mentioned by Curran (no.2) and Henry (1937, 277-8). According to Curran, pilgrimages to it ceased in the early part of the 19th century, but Henry noted that rounds were still being made and that it was dedicated to St. Brendan. Linked to Saint Colmán, the well is associated with healing traditions and pilgrimage, particularly for curing eye ailments. Local folklore suggests that the three springs symbolize the Trinity and that water collected at dawn is most efficacious.
