Indicated

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated is a vanished fairy fort in County Cork, mapping a twenty-metre circular enclosure in 1904 but losing even its broken arc by 1938. The grass may still hide a shallow ditch, while the standing stone to the southeast waits for someone reckless enough to touch it.
In level pasture. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 20m) on 1904 OS 6-inch map; broken line forms arc SW->SE on 1938 OS 6-inch map. No visible surface trace. Standing stone (CO051-014002-) immediately to SE of site. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
