What is recorded here

Indicated is a broken circular enclosure in County Cork, reduced to low earthen banks and a shallow fosse at the corner of a pasture field. It may be the fort Bowman recorded as levelled and ploughed repeatedly, meaning human hands kept returning there to take, bury or reshape what the land held. Even diminished, it preserves the shape of a place people once believed worth marking.

In pasture, on W-facing slope. Depicted as circular area (diam. c. 25m) defined by broken line on 1937 OS 6-inch map, in corner of field. Corner of field (19m E-W; 17.6m N-S) now enclosed by low linear earthen banks (int. H 0.55m; ext. H 0.58m) to S and W, with external fosse (D 0.47m). Probably fort recorded by Bowman (1934, 518) as levelled on M. Murphy's land, the site of which 'has been ploughed many times'.
