What is recorded here

Indicated is a fairy fort in County Cavan, an oval earthen ring nearly twenty-eight metres wide where the southern bank still holds a gap for entry. Cavan farms have long treated such rings as off-limits, not dead ground, because the soil there belongs to others and anger there returns multiplied. The fort has given up no owner, no date or warning, but it has kept its shape across every field and fixture that has passed it. What it guards is no longer written, only repeated in the way people still point at it and refuse to break it open.

Raised oval area (int. dims. 27.9m E-W; 25.1m N-S) enclosed by a well-defined earthen bank, the outer face of which has been modified and incorporated into the field boundary from N-S-W, and vague traces of a fosse. Break in bank at S may represent original entrance. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995).
