Indicated

Fairy fort / stone ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated is a conjoined cashel on a SW-facing slope near Cappanawalla Hill, visible on the 1916 map and still marking the land with its oval stone bank. The flat interior has no clear entrance, as if the fort was built for someone who never needed a door. A modern wall now rides the ancient bank, and scrubby growth holds the NW side like a forgotten boundary.
In flat area on a SW-facing slope in reclaimed pasture near the foot of Cappanawalla Hill with commanding views from S to NW. Indicated as an enclosure on the 1916 OS 6-inch map. An oval cashel (18m NE-SW; 12m NW-SE), defined by a bank of stone and earth (Wth 2-3.8m; int. H 0.7-1m; ext. H 0.7-0.9m). Another cashel (CL005-200----) is conjoined at SW. The interior is flat with no clear entrance. The bank is surmounted by a modern wall and supports scrubby growth along its NW side. Lismacteige rath (CL005-021----) lies c. 78m to the W.   Compiled by: Mary Tunney and Eve Campbell   Date of upload: 14 October 2025
