What is recorded here

Indicated is an oval cashel near Cappanawalla Hill in County Clare, with a second smaller enclosure joined at its northeast edge. Its stone-and-earth bank still stands barely a metre high, yet the flat interior and missing entrance suggest a place made for watching rather than living. The view stretches from south to northwest across reclaimed pasture, inviting speculation about who stood there at dusk and what they saw.

In a flat area on a SW-facing slope in reclaimed pasture near the foot of Cappanawalla Hill with commanding views from S to NW. Indicated as an enclosure on the 1916 OS 6-inch map. An oval cashel (int. 26m NE-SW; 15m NW-SE), with an adjoining cashel (CL005-200002-) at NE, defined by a bank of stone and earth (Wth 2-3.8m; int. H 0.7-1m; ext. H 0.7-0.9m). Outer wall-facing is evident at the SE, S and SW (H 0.2-0.3m). The interior is flat with no clear entrance. The bank is surmounted by a modern wall and supports scrubby growth along its NW side.
