What is recorded here

Indicated is a faded fairy fort on a sunny Longford slope, its shallow ditch forgotten and its thin bank barely visible beneath grass. It is the kind of place that stops a person mid-thought because the earth has almost erased the shape of a home. What remains is a circle large enough to walk around and small enough to belong to someone, which makes the loss easier to imagine and harder to accept.

On a gentle S-facing slope in pasture. Depicted as a circular enclosure with the designation 'Fort' on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. A raised circular area (diam. c. 39m) enclosed from NNW-N-ESE by a much-denuded, low bank of earth and stone (Wth 3.2m; H 0.2m) and defined elsewhere by a scarp (H 0.3-0.5m). A report in 1976 (SMR file) recorded a shallow external fosse; it has since been infilled. A break (Wth 2m) in the bank at E may mark the original entrance. Compiled by: Patrick F.
