What is recorded here

Indicated is a lost crannog in the south half of Lough Bannow, recorded on a 1914 map as a small irregular island about fifteen metres across. When visited later, the lake had become a dense swamp of man-sized reeds and sally trees, hiding the island from even a thorough search. It may still exist beneath the water and vegetation, preserved in the kind of forgotten depth that makes crannogs strange and alive.

In the S half of Lough Bannow. Marked on the 1914 ed. of the OS 6-inch map as a small, irregularly shaped island (diam. c. 15m). When visited the lake was a swamp full of man-sized reeds and sally trees. Despite a thorough search it was not located. Another possible crannog (LF017-005----) lies c. 75m to the NNW.
