What is recorded here

A subrectangular area (dims. c. 59m x 45m) outlined on the 1st (1839) ed. OS 6-inch map and 1948 revision. On inspection it was found to be a rectangular area with rounded corners, defined by an internal fosse (Wth 1.2m; D 0.7m) and an outer bank (H 0.6m; Wth 1m) with an outer bank (stone faced in places internally). These were deemed quite fresh, probably 19th century in date. Shallow stone quarry workings were noted in the interior. The enclosure may have been constructed to contain the quarry when in use or it may have been subsequently constructed to form a clump of trees or a fox covert. The deciduous trees within the enclosure are older than those around it. Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 31 January 2012
A local fairy fort (ringfort/rath); wider significance not recorded.
