What is recorded here

Indicated is a heavily overgrown subcircular rath on a grassy rise in County Galway, measuring fifty metres north-south and thirty-seven metres east-west. Its inner scarp reaches one point eight metres, while a broad fosse and outer bank surround the central space. A holy well sits twenty metres to the northeast, suggesting the site still serves human needs despite the grass swallowing its edges. The field bank overlapping the outer wall from northeast to southeast shows how quickly ordinary life can bury ancient boundaries.

On a rise in grassland. This heavily overgrown subcircular rath (50m N-S; 37m E-W), in fair condition, is defined by an inner scarp (H 1.8m max.), intervening fosse (Wth 2.5-3m) and outer bank (Wth 3m; int. H 1.3m; ext. H 0.5m). From NE to SSE a field bank overlies the outer bank. A holy well (GA085-059----) lies c. 20m to the NE. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 9 January 2018
