Indicated

Crannog

What is recorded here

Indicated is a crannog in County Mayo, Ireland, though no visible marker or record confirms its shape, size or history. The name floats free of fact, pointing at nothing but itself. Perhaps it marked a lake dwelling lost to drainage or time, or perhaps it is merely a label waiting for a place. Either way, the absence is the feature: a crannog so unseen it becomes legend before proof.
The Archaeological Survey of Ireland (ASI) is in the process of providing information on all monuments on The Historic Environment Viewer (HEV).
