What is recorded here

Situated on level ground in a marshy area, to the NE of Kilcoole church (WI013-029001-). A natural unmarked spring. The OS Letters (O'Flanagan 1928, 64) mention it but say that it was 'not held in any particular veneration'. The remains of this well were uncovered during archaeological monitoring of top soil stripping in 2004 (Excavation Licence 04E0848), the well was not impacted upon and was re-sealed with earth (Phelan 2007, 486). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997).
