Indicated

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Indicated is a long narrow graveyard in County Laois where a nineteenth-century Church of Ireland church sits inside the northern quadrant of a stone-walled rectangle. The earth may hold remains from a seventeenth-century church, though only post-1700 memorials still mark the surface. That hidden depth turns an ordinary rural burial place into a layer cake of faith, forgetting and continuity.
19th century C of I church with graveyard to S and E may be remains of an earlier graveyard associated with a seventeenth century church (LA030-018003-). Long narrow rectangular graveyard (int. dims. 23m N-S; 65m E-W) enclosed by a stone wall with church in N quadrant of graveyard. Graveyard contains post 1700 AD memorials.
