Indicated

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated is a lost ringfort in County Cork, Ireland. A circular shadow on an 1842 map and a local name called fort field are all that remain visible. The earth may have swallowed the stones, but the shape still repeats itself across time.
In pasture, on S-facing slope. Depicted on 1842 OS 6-inch map as circular area (diam. c. 30m) defined by broken line and bisected by N-S field boundary. According to landowner, known as fort field; no visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
