What is recorded here

Indicated is a ruined cashel on the lower slopes of The Paps of Dana, where a D-shaped stone circle once stood twenty metres wide before surrendering most of its walls to a straight field boundary. The western arc disappeared into human ownership and livestock traffic, reducing the fortress to a few scattered stones by the 1940s. It remains a ghost of geometry, half-swallowed by the pasture that consumed it.

In pasture, on the lower N-facing slopes of The Paps of Dana. A slightly raised D-shaped area (dims. 20m E-W) abutting a linear N-S field boundary (L 20m) at W. Indicated as a roughly circular enclosure (diam. c. 25m) on the 1894 and 1846 OS 6-inch maps with the W arc incorporated into the field boundary system. In the 1940s it was described as a 'derelict cathairín' with only 'a few stones in a circle' remaining (Schools Manuscript, Co. Kerry).
