Indicated

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated is a circular fairy fort in County Cavan, Ireland. It has a thirty-one-metre diameter and a low earthen bank. Trees now cover the original entrance and much of the ancient shape. The fort has survived human forgetting, which is either mercy or a warning.
Indicated as a tree plantation on all OS eds. Raised circular area (int. diam. c. 31m) enclosed by a much-disturbed but well-defined low earthen bank. Original entrance not recognisable. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
