In an area of marsh and forestry, on a SE-facing slope, overlooking the former Mount Firoda House to S. An ornamental feature of Lord Bellew’s former Mount Firoda Estate. Locally known as the ‘Duck Pond’, it comprises a circular area of very wet marsh (max. diam. c. 130m N-S) enclosed by a ring of closely set rhododendron. Within this enclosing ring there is a broad drain, off-centre, circular in plan and now almost completely choked with vegetation. It surrounds a slightly raised copse of conifers. The drain was formerly water-filled and water was drawn from it, channelled through a linear trench (indicated on OS) for the domestic use of house and farm.
