Indicated

Crannog

What is recorded here

Indicated is a small circular island in Lough Oughter, eighty metres from the shore, close enough to tempt but distant enough to exclude. It is the sort of place where people may have hidden stairs, doors or memories beneath its bushes. The lake keeps what it wants and returns only what it chooses to reveal.
Small roughly circular tree-and-bush-covered island (diam. c. 23m) in Lough Oughter, c. 80m from the shoreline. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008
