Indicated

Situated on a knoll which is on a general E-facing slope, and it is also at the edge of the road on the N side of a road junction. The smithy at Donacarney abutted the W wall of the castle (ME021-009----) (Dalton 1844, vol. 2, 451), and this building could be a medieval structure as recorded by Kieran Campbell. It incorporated a rectangular light in the E gable, the surrounds of which were dressed with hollow chamfers and it had horizontal glazing bar-holes. The E gable is now reduced in height, but the W wall has a blocked pointed doorway which has the base of its chamfered jambs and part of the pointed arch still present. The quoinstones appear to be hammer-dressed and a spandrel from an ogee-headed light is built into the wall. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 15 September 2021
