Bullaun stone in DerrintinnyBullaun stone · 456 ydComputer-made picture

Explorer Tom Bullaun stone in Derrintinny would win the county fair for 'Best Bell-Shaped Depression' without breaking a sweat. It’s basically a giant stone thimble that never got used for sewing. Great spot to propose. Or at least to propose lunch.

Bullaun stone (present location) in DerrintinnyBullaun stone (present location) · 523 ydComputer-made picture

Explorer Tom Bullaun stone in Derrintinny had a fox take charge of the whole place last Tuesday, or at least that’s what I’m telling you. It’s just a rock with a dip, but hey, foxes have standards. Ten minutes here and you'll have a yarn for the pub.

Drumlane RectoryRectory/glebe/vicarage/curate's house · 1060 yd

Explorer Tom Drumlane Rectory has two different build dates fighting over who started first: 1819 or 1824? The vicar probably just shrugged and bought it anyway. Ring your bell softly; the ghosts might be asleep in that cubic volume.

Explorer Tom Deralk sits quietly in County Cavan, and I imagine it’s just enjoying the silence while we argue about where to eat lunch.

Church in ruinsReligious house, Augustinian canons · 1340 yd

Explorer Tom Church in ruins at Drumlane has Augustinian canons who were probably terrible at housekeeping. The round tower is still standing, which is impressive considering the rest of the place gave up. Ideal place to rehearse an excuse for being late.

Explorer Tom Derryvackny is a rugged little peak in Cavan, likely hiding a few rocky outcrops for adventurous boots to explore.

Explorer Tom I bet the Drumlane Community Playground is where neighbors gather to watch their kids build intricate sandcastles together every afternoon.

Clogh Oughter CastleCastle, Anglo-Norman masonry castle · 2.2 mi

Pedunculate Oak2.5 mi

Explorer Tom Pedunculate Oak in County Cavan has a local who claims to have invented it, which is a bold move for a species that existed before humans. Snap one photo, then put the phone away and actually look at the leaves because they’re doing something interesting.

Explorer Tom Killeshandra Loop is a recorded walking route, perfect for a circular wander through the lovely local landscape.
