What is recorded here

Indicated is a likely crannog at the centre of Curraun Lough in County Leitrim, Ireland. It appears as an overgrown flat-topped island about 20m across, blocked from entry by reeds and silt, yet it sits beside a known crannog only 30m to the northwest. The lake has shrunk since the 1835 map, perhaps hiding more of the place beneath water and vegetation.

Located at the centre of Curraun Lough, a small oval lake (max. dims c. 250m NW-SE; c. 100m NE-SW) that is represented on the 1835 edition of the OS 6-inch map as being larger (max. dims c. 325m NW-SE; c. 150m NE-SW). This feature is represented as an island on the OS 6-inch maps and appears to be an overgrown flat-topped island (diam. c. 20m) but it is inaccessible through silting and reed growth. Nevertheless, it is very likely to be a crannog, and crannog (LE033-001----) is c. 30m to the NW.
