Indicated is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Culleens, County Sligo, Ireland. It occupies a low rise in poorly-drained pasture and presents a raised oval area enclosed by a low earthen bank with an external fosse. A modern field boundary divides the site into unequal portions, while a subcircular hollow and a semi-circular interior projection remain visible within the uneven ground.
Situated on a low rise in poorly-drained pasture. Raised oval area (33m E-W; 25m N-S) enclosed by a low earthen bank (Wth 3-3.3m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.85-1m) with an external fosse (Wth. 2.5m) evident as a shallow depression. The site is divided into unequal portions by a modern ENE-WSW field boundary. The ground level of the enclosed area is uneven. Close to the centre is a subcircular hollow (dims. 2m x 3m). Projecting into the interior from the inner face of the bank at E is a a semi-circular area (5m N-S; 3m E-W) defined by a low bank (Wth 1.3m; H 0.3m). Compiled by: Patrick F.
