What is recorded here
Indicated is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Culleens, County Sligo, Ireland. Marked Roycloghany on the OS 1913 edition of the OS 6-inch map, it sits on an east-facing slope below a north-south ridge in pasture. A thirty-two-metre circular area is enclosed by a five-to-five-and-a-half-metre earthen bank with a two-metre eastern break that may represent the original entrance. A low northwest-southeast bank divides the interior, while a square possible hut site and two depressions abut its sides.
Marked 'Roycloghany' on the OS 1913 edition of the OS 6-inch map. Situated on an E-facing slope a short distance below the top of a N-S ridge in pasture. Raised circular area (diam. 32m) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 5-5.5m; int. H 1.1m; ext. H 1.7m), whose internal face may have been faced with stone, with an external fosse (Wth 4.3m; ext. D 0.6m at SE) which is barely identifiable at the W side. Break (Wth. 2m) in bank at E may represent original entrance. The enclosed area is divided into roughly equal portions by a low NW-SE bank (Wth 1.3m; H 0.2m) which extends through the centre. Abutting the E side of this bank is a possible hut site (SL017-032002-). It consists of a square area (dim. 4m) whose N and S sides are defined by ephemeral remains of a low bank or wall. Adjoining this at S is a subrectangular hollow (4m N-S; 3m E-W). Abutting the dividing wall at SW is a subcircular depression (diam. 4m; D 0.3m).
