What is recorded here

Indicated is a fairy fort on a Mayo ridge, a circular earthwork wide enough for a small village yet hidden beneath pasture and overgrowth. Its buried southwest passage suggests people once went down into the hill before forgetting the way back. The forgootten hand that shaped the bank may have believed the ground could return something it took.

In pasture, on summit of N-S running ridge. Roughly circular-shaped area (40m N-S; 46.5m E-W), enclosed by heavily overgrown earthen bank (H 1m). Cloonboorhy is a roughly circular fairy fort (ringfort/rath) situated on a ridge summit, featuring an earthen bank and an associated man-made underground passage. Likely dating to the early medieval period, it may have functioned as a defensive or agricultural settlement, and like many such sites, it is traditionally associated with local folklore involving fairies or supernatural beings.
