What is recorded here

In a slight depression on a rocky terrace on the NW-facing foothills of the Ox Mountains. Circular area (19m N−S; 18m E−W) enclosed by a drystone wall (Wth 0.6-0.7m; H 1m). The wall is roughly built of field stone rubble. The interior has a very slight slope down from centre to the perimeter at SW−W. Remnants of a drystone field wall (Wth 0.4m; H 0.15m), on a N−S axis, bisects the interior. There are low areas in the wall at W and S, but no clearly defined entrance. This small enclosure does not appear to be a ringfort or ancient enclosure. The enclosing wall is narrow and roughly built, of similar size and construction to local field walls. It may be an animal enclosure dating to 18th/19th century. Ferns obscure the interior. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 12 June 2020
