What is recorded here
Indicated is a modern drainage earthwork in County Longford, built to drain wet marshland around a church and graveyard. Its ditches cut across the fields like a shallow star, shaping the land and marking the edge of human control over water. The site is ordinary in function but striking in form, a place where practical work becomes visible sculpture.
There are numerous earthworks visible in the fields to the N, E, S and W of the graveyard (LF013-045009-). The majority - if not all - of these earthworks are associated with modern drainage channels which have been constructed in an attempt to reclaim the wet marshy land that surrounds the church (LF013-045002-) and graveyard (LF013-045009-).
